NI-TimeSync 18.0.1 Patch Details

Contents

Fixed Issue

NI has discovered a potential synchronization issue within the NI-TimeSync 18.0 IEEE 802.1AS-2011 component. The IEEE 802.1AS time reference component is responsible for synchronizing devices' internal clocks with rest of the 802.1AS network. The issue may present in the following cases:

  • A device using an IEEE 802.1AS-2011 18.0 time reference might lose synchronization with rest of the 802.1AS network. This  causes the internal clock(s) of the affected device to drift from the other clocks in the 802.1AS network.
  • The monitoring data returned by the NI-Sync API might be inaccurate. For example, an affected device might return its 802.1AS state as 'AS Capable' but, in reality, the device is no longer participating in the 802.1AS network.

Affected NI Devices

Any NI Linux Real-Time x64 device using a NI-TimeSync 18.0 IEEE 802.1AS-2011 component.

Identifying unpatched NI-TimeSync 18.0 IEEE 802.1AS-2011 component on a NI Linux Device

  1. Open Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
  2. Locate your NI Linux device under Remote Systems.
  3. Click the arrow next to your device to expand its contents, then expand the Software section.
  4. Locate and click on the NI-TimeSync Time Reference for IEEE 802.1AS-2011. If the component is not listed, then it is not installed on your device.
  5. Version of the IEEE 802.1AS time reference is directly embedded in the component name and will be also listed in the Attributes tab in MAX as in the following screenshot:

Installing the NI-TimeSync 18.0.1 Patch

NI Update Service will automatically detect the IEEE 802.1AS-2011 18.0 time reference on your development computer and allow you to download and install  NI-TimeSync 18.0.1 patch. The NI-TimeSync 18.0.1 patch updates the IEEE 802.1AS-2011 time reference to 18.0.1.
