First Steps with the LabVIEW FPGA Module

1. Download the LabVIEW FPGA Module

If you haven’t purchased LabVIEW FPGA Module yet, download today and you’ll receive a free evaluation of the software. Start free trial.

If you’ve purchased LabVIEW FPGA Module, check your inbox for an email that will let you claim access. This step registers the software to your NI user account and ensures you can access all the support benefits that come with the software.

Note: The LabVIEW FPGA Module is used with NI LabVIEW. You will need an active LabVIEW Professional license or start a concurrent LabVIEW free trial to access the software.

2. Getting started with LabVIEW FPGA

Learn the fundamentals of FPGA development, including key concepts, and best practices for building FPGA-based applications using NI graphical programming tools. Refer to the Getting Started with LabVIEW FPGA tutorial.

3. Explore example programs in Example Finder

To find example programs, In LabVIEW, select Help > Find Examples > Toolkits and Modules > FPGA.

4. Connect and configure your hardware

Download and install the NI CompactRIO driver, connect to your hardware, and add the target to your LabVIEW FPGA project. After the appropriate target is added to the project, create an FPGA VI under that target.

5. Write your own program, simulate, and compile

Write and debug your own VI. Confirm your functionality by simulating before compiling to deploy to your FPGA target.
