Using myDAQ with the NI ELVISmx Dynamic Signal Analyzer Soft Front Panel

Contents

Overview

The NI ELVISmx Dynamic Signal Analyzer (DSA) SFP computes and displays the RMS averaged power spectrum of a single channel. A variety of windowing and averaging modes can be applied to the signal. It also detects the peak frequency component and estimate the actual frequency and power.

Input Settings

The input settings section of the Dynamic Signal Analyzer soft front panel enables the user select which channel to acquire from and the voltage range for that channel.

FFT Settings and Averaging

The FFT settings and Averaging section of the Dynamic Signal Analyzer soft front panel enables the user customize the FFT and averaging performed on the acquired data.

The Frequency Span, specifies the measurement range that starts at DC and extends to the Frequency Span value. Resolution (lines)determines the length of the time-domain record and the number of samples to be acquired. The user specifies the time-domain window to use using the Window drop down menu.

Trigger Settings

This instrument supports digital and analog triggering. For digital triggering, you must connect a TTL-level trigger signal to the TRIG line on the NI ELVIS II Series Workstation. For analog triggering, you can set the trigger level and slope.

Frequency Display and Scale Settings

The Frequency Display and Scale Settings section of the Dynamic Signal Analyzer soft front panel enables the user customize the display graph. The user can configure the displayed units for the magnitude plot, the display mode and axis maximum and minimum values.

Cursor Settings

Cursors and signal measurements are available for performing signal analysis.

Instrument Control

The Instrument Control settings section of the Dynamic Signal Analyzer allows the user to select which device they are using to output a signal and if they’d like to run continuously, or once. This section also holds stop button and a link to the help section for the Function Generator in the NI ELVISmx help.

The device drop down selection box allows a user to select any myDAQ or ELVIS unit that is connected to the system.  The device list, which includes the device numbers, is pulled from the devices and interfaces that can be seen in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  To test or rename each device, see the Configuring and Testing your myDAQ in Measurement & Automation Explorer page.
