What Is NI InsightCM™?

NI InsightCM is application software tailored for online monitoring applications. The open platform allows maintenance managers and IT system administrators to implement a predictive maintenance program that combines multiple data sources and integrates with existing IT infrastructure.

With NI InsightCM, you can configure, view, and manage remote acquisition systems and server parameters. A web UI allows you to remotely analyze raw time series data and calculated features, draw comparisons, and view trends. A customizable interface gives maintenance and equipment specialists the ability to infer asset health by reviewing historical and live data with industry-standard viewers. Ready-to-run NI add-ons can also extend functionality.

Data Analytics

NI InsightCM offers users a comprehensive set of algorithms for processing dynamic waveform data and calculating features and spectral bands. Users can specify which analytics should be applied to a particular channel. After the data is acquired, the analytics are performed on the data in real time and the results can be used for alarming and file collection triggers. The raw data and analytics results are stored together. The following analytics are provided.

Spectral Bands

RMS, Crest Factor, Peak-Peak, Derived Peak, True Peak, Line Frequency, Phasor: Magnitude, Phasor: Phase, Unbalance, Effective Service Factor, Active Power, Reactive Power, Apparent Power, Power Factor, MCSA Speed, Torque, Torque Ripple, Load, Percent Load, Efficiency, Percent Full Load Amps, Startup Time, etc (For full list please see the help documentation.) 1x Phase/Magnitude, 2x Phase/Magnitude, Subsynchronous, Non-synchronous, Synchronous, High Frequency, Residual, Custom Bands

Integration and differentiation capabilities are also provided with both English and Metric units support.

Systems Management

With NI InsightCM, users can manage and configure remote asset monitoring systems. Automatic system discovery and template-based channel, analytics, operating state, and alarm configurations help users to quickly add asset monitoring nodes to NI InsightCM and to associate the physical channels with components. After the configuration has been applied, users can use the web-based test panels to verify that the sensors are properly connected and the asset monitoring node is receiving the expected data.

During the course of operation, users can use the dashboards throughout NI InsightCM to verify not only asset health but also instrumentation health. IT system administrators can validate asset monitoring node performance parameters such as system temperature, CPU usage, available onboard memory, and network connectivity to ensure a reliable solution. Maintenance and equipment specialists can log on to check active alarms and see current values for feature information that the asset monitoring nodes are calculating from the current data.

When NI InsightCM needs to be upgraded, IT administrators can manage the application software running on the asset monitoring systems and remotely update the application software running on multiple devices at once, which makes field upgrades simple.

Data Management

Using NI InsightCM, users can access tools that help configure alarms to prioritize data to review, to easily gain access to the data, and to manage the volume of data collected. When configuring the asset monitoring systems, users can create alarms based on the calculated results from the raw sensor data. These alarms are downloaded to the asset monitoring system for real-time detection and can be configured to send an email to alert equipment specialists of suspected issues for further investigation. Users can view and acknowledge all active and past alarms and add notes about the cause of the alarm.

The raw data and calculated features are stored on NI InsightCM as an open file that can be accessed using proven technology for managing and mining large sets of engineering data. Having access to the raw engineering data allows new trends and algorithms to be applied to the data as unique new algorithms are developed in the future.
To efficiently use disk space, a data aging strategy can be defined that removes unnecessary historical data from the system. Maintenance and equipment specialists can define certain data sets that are always retained, which ensures that important asset health data can be reviewed again in the future as necessary.

With NI InsightCM, users can be confident that asset health data is coming from only authenticated asset monitoring systems and only verified users have access to NI InsightCM. Secure remote password (SRP) is used for authentication between the asset monitoring systems and NI InsightCM. IT system administrators can specify a disconnection interval to force the asset monitoring nodes to disconnect from the server and to reauthenticate themselves.

Access to NI InsightCM is role-based and gives IT system administrators the ability to restrict access to certain functionality to qualified users. These roles and user authentication can be linked to an existing corporate LDAP/Active Directory group to allow for centralized role management. User activity between the client browser and NI InsightCM can be further secured using SSL encryption.

NI InsightCM Add-Ons

NI InsightCM add-ons are NI-developed ready-to-run extensions of core NI InsightCM functionality that are available separately.

The NI InsightCM MCSA Toolkit implements motor current signature analysis (MCSA) algorithms for 3-phase AC induction electric motors. With features that are calculated through this toolkit, users can infer rotor bar damage, misalignment, eccentricity, mechanical looseness, or bearing problems during steady-state operation of the motors. In addition, this toolkit can assist with the capture of inrush current data during motor startup to ensure operators are not starting up motors without an appropriate load.

The NI InsightCM Software Development Kit extends the functionality of NI InsightCM to custom NI monitoring devices. It takes advantage of NI InsightCM’s open and flexible architecture by allowing users to use NI InsightCM LabVIEW APIs and develop custom analytics and services for NI InsightCM.

The NI InsightCM Enterprise Gateway Toolkit enables integration with third-party historians, SCADA, CMMS, and other enterprise software packages. Calculated features can be communicated through an OPC UA interface or written directly to the OSIsoft PI System software to deliver additional trending and alarming possibilities and to integrate with other business intelligence systems to help with better decisions on budgeting, downtime scheduling, spare parts inventories, and maintenance personnel.
