cRIO-9951 MDK Support Overview

Designing a custom module requires knowledge of electrical circuit and firmware design as well as board layout and application driver-level software design skills. NI answers only general questions about the cRIO-9951 MDK and cannot support in-depth circuit design or firmware-specific questions.  

 

cRIO-9951 MDK Suite Support

As part of the cRIO-9951 MDK Suite, you have access to a specific number of technical support hours per the cRIO Module Development Kit Distribution Agreement. To obtain support, please contact your local NI office for details. In addition, you may use the private NI discussion forum. This forum is monitored by NI product support engineers, who will attempt to answer general support questions within 48 hours.

Registering for the Private Forum

You can find the private support forum for the MDK at http://forums.ni.com/t5/cRIO-Module-Developers-Kit/bd-p/private5. To register for the private forum, you need to have a forum alias. If you do not have one, please visit http://forums.ni.com and click the Register link to create one. If you already have an alias, email mdkforum@ni.com with your direct email address and the NI forum alias name. Our goal is to update the NI web systems within 48 hours. Please check back after that time to view the forum. If you do not see the new forum once you log in to ni.com after this time, please email mdkforum@ni.com.

 

Steps to Purchasing the cRIO-9951 MDK

cRIO-9951 MDK Base

1. Purchase the MDK and receive the design manual and sample modules.

2. Gain access to the private forum on ni.com for support.

3. Design your module using the default vendor ID as required by the C Series specification.

4. Optionally send your custom module to NI for electrical power certification testing at a fee.

 

cRIO-9951 MDK Suite

1. Purchase the MDK and receive the design manual and sample modules.

2. Gain access to the private forum on ni.com for support.  

3. Gain access to an NI product support engineer by emailing mdkpsesupport@ni.com with your purchase order number and developer contact information. Our goal is to acknowledge your email within 48 hours and provide as much information as possible within the forum. We hope this site can answer your most important questions.

4. If you are a first-time designer, obtain a unique vendor ID by emailing crio.mdk@ni.com. 

5. Send your module to NI for electrical power certification testing as part of your cRIO-9951 MDK purchase. To schedule certification testing, email mdkpsesupport@ni.com. 

6. You must download Attachment A of the “I Accept” license agreement on ni.com, sign it, and then return it to NI. Review the NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS AGREEMENT (NI cRIO MODULE DEVELOPMENT KIT) license.

 

CompactRIO Module Developer Kit Overview

With your purchase of the cRIO-9951 MDK, you receive a complete design specification manual that describes the electrical specifications and hardware design requirements for creating a custom module. Also described in the manual is a basic software application programming interface model that you can use to create higher level drivers in LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Real-Time for your custom module.
