Back up a DataFinder, Data Preprocessor, or an Analysis Automation instance in a backup file to restore the instance when necessary.

  1. In SystemLink, select Data Preparation, Data Indexing, or Analysis Automation.
  2. Click Data Preprocessor Instances, DataFinder Instances, or Analysis Automation Instances.
  3. Select an instance and click »Stop if the instance is running.
  4. Click »More»Create Backup and specify the folder where you want to save the backup file. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
  5. Specify whether the backup of a DataFinder or Data Preprocessor instance should exclude the index. If you exclude the index, you need to reindex the instance after it has been restored. This may take some time. You can only back up instances with their index if the index size is smaller than 50 GB.
  6. Optional: Adaptors connect DataFinder instance indexes to different databases and store the index in these databases. Make the following settings for DataFinder instances that use the Microsoft SQL Server as an index adaptor.
    Mode Description
Normal Creates a default backup of a DataFinder instance that uses the Microsoft SQL Server as an index adaptor.
Migration Creates a backup of a DataFinder instance that uses the Microsoft SQL Server as an index adaptor with which you can move a DataFinder instance to another computer. The backup file contains all necessary information for connecting to the Microsoft SQL Server. You do not need to recreate the index of a migrated DataFinder instance. If you created the backup of a DataFinder instance in the Migration mode and restored this instance through the menu New»New from Backup on a different computer, you can no longer use the original DataFinder instance.
  7. Click OK to save the backup. Backups have the following file extensions:
    • DataFinder instance: .bakdf
    • Data Preprocessor instance: .bakdpp
    • Analysis Automation instance: .bakas
  8. Optional: To create a schedule that backs up the instances regularly, select »More»Regular Backup Schedule, enable the setting Backup server regularly, make your settings, and click OK. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
