Preparing Data for Searching

Last Modified: April 1, 2021

DataFinder instances index data in search areas or in the SystemLink file service to enable you to search for files and specific properties in files with Data Navigation and clients like DIAdem and LabVIEW.

The following table highlights tasks to help you prepare data for searching.
Goal Indexing Management Task
Automate file indexing for DataFinder instances. Schedule indexing and index optimization*,control behavior upon file changes, specify timeouts and the number of parallel indexers.
Ensure DataFinder instances always use the latest data. Enable regular search area monitoring to regularly update the index*.
Run data integrity checks on data entering the file service against a "required metadata" definition file. Create a required metadata definition file and upload it to the DataFinder instance that indexes the file service.
Enable indexing of new file types. Add DataPlugins.
Monitor the indexing status. Open the system status of a DataFinder instance and reindex data if necessary. You can also filter by status.
Maintain DataFinder instance index manually. Index data*, optimize data, or reset the index.

*not available for instances that index the file service, like the FileIndex instance
