Enabling DataPlugins to Index New File Types

Last Modified: June 24, 2021

Enable DataPlugins to index new file types so you can use them with DataFinder instances. If you use an instance that indexes the file service, like the FileIndex instance, and there is no dedicated DataPlugin for a file type, SystemLink uses the NI_UNK_DP DataPlugin to index the file properties. You can only search on the file level of file service files which are indexed by this DataPlugin.

  1. In Data Indexing, click DataFinder Instances.
  2. Select an instance and click »Manage.
  3. On the DataPlugins tab, select an inactive DataPlugin and click Enable.
  4. Click Apply to accept the settings.

    Note

If you enable several DataPlugins that index the same file extension, make sure that your DataPlugins recognize the file format they have been programmed for. All other file formats with the same file extension should throw an error. If a file is indexed multiple times by different DataPlugins, this may result in multiple search results for the same file.
