Version:
Last Modified: November 7, 2019

Connect client software such as DIAdem or LabVIEW to a DataFinder instance to browse and search in the data of this instance. To do so, save the connection parameters in a client configuration file ( *.urf ) and enable the connection on the client computer.

  1. In Data Indexing, click DataFinder Instances.
  2. Select an instance and click »Connect»Export Client Configuration.
  3. Specify the name of the configuration file.
  4. Use the following table to select the connection parameters.
    Connection Parameters Description
Use computer name + add full domain name Saves the name of the computer on which the DataFinder instance is running and the complete domain name in the configuration file, for example Computer@Domain. This default setting is suitable for standard client-server constellations. Select this setting if the client is in a different domain than the computer on which the DataFinder instance is running.
Use computer name Saves the name of the computer, on which the DataFinder instance is running, in the configuration file. This setting only works if the client is in the same domain as the computer on which the DataFinder instance is running.
Use IP address Saves the IP address of the computer, on which the DataFinder instance is running, in the configuration file.
  5. Specify the timeouts.
  6. Use the following table to specify the DataPlugin settings.
    DataPlugins Description
Include DataPlugins in client configuration Encrypts and saves all VBS DataPlugins in the configuration file. This allows the client to load the corresponding data from the search areas of the DataFinder instance. The installation of the configuration file on the client overwrites earlier DataPlugin versions with the DataPlugins from the SystemLink server.
Synchronize DataPlugins automatically When you establish the DataFinder instance connection in the client software, the client software overwrites the existing VBS DataPlugins on the client with the DataPlugins from the SystemLink server by default. You can disable this setting in the client software.
Enforce synchronization When you establish the DataFinder instance connection in the client software, the client software overwrites the existing VBS DataPlugins on the client with the DataPlugins from the SystemLink server. You cannot disable this setting in the client software.
  7. Click Export and save the configuration file on the client computer.
  8. If the USI registration tool for DataPlugins and store definitions is installed on the client computer, register the DataFinder instance by double-clicking the configuration file.
  9. Connect to the DataFinder instance from client software such as DIAdem. You can now browse and search in the search areas of the DataFinder instance with the client software.
