Tracking Asset Utilization with LabVIEW

Last Modified: June 22, 2021

Record utilization information about the assets performing test and measurement tasks.

When you track an asset, you also track the assets your team connected to it. For example, if you mark a FAM accessory as in use, the service also marks the PXI board your team attached to the FAM accessory, as well as the PXI chassis that contains the board and the PXI controller installed in the PXI chassis.

What to Use

You can find the SystemLink Asset Utilization API on the Data Communication palette in LabVIEW 2016 or later and LabVIEW NXG 4.0 or later.

This example uses the LabVIEW Asset Utilization API. You can use the same code in LabVIEW NXG to track asset utilization during test and measurement tasks.

What to Do

  1. Create the following diagram in a VI to record utilization information about the asset(s) performing test and measurement tasks.

Customize the gray sections for your unique programming goals.

Start Utilization collects utilization data about the asset(s) performing a test or measurement task.
End Utilization stops collecting utilization data when the test or measurement task finishes.

If you encounter errors, try the following troubleshooting strategy:
  • If you do not see asset utilization data show up on the server, you may need to wait a few minutes for the client to send the data to the server.
