Last Modified: June 24, 2021

Back up a DataFinder, Data Preprocessor, or an Analysis Automation instance in a backup file to restore the instance when necessary.

  1. Optional: In Data Preparation or Data Indexing:
    1. Click Data Preprocessor Instances or DataFinder Instances.
    2. Select an instance and click »Stop if the instance is running.
    3. Click »More»Create Backup. Specify the folder where you want to save the backup file. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
    4. Specify whether the backup of a DataFinder or Data Preprocessor instance should exclude the index. If you exclude the index, you need to reindex the instance after it has been restored. This may take some time.

      Note

You can only back up instances with their index if the index size is smaller than 50 GB.

    5. Make the following settings for DataFinder instances that use the Microsoft SQL Server as an index adaptor. Adaptors connect a DataFinder instance index to a different database to store the index.
    Mode Description
Normal Creates a default backup of a DataFinder instance.
Migration Creates a backup of a DataFinder instance which you can use to move the DataFinder instance to another computer. The backup file contains all necessary information for connecting to the Microsoft SQL Server. You do not need to recreate the index of a migrated DataFinder instance. Creating a backup of an instance in the Migration mode deletes this instance.
  2. Optional: In Analysis Automation:
    1. Click Instance on the dashboard.
    2. Click »Stop if the instance is running.
    3. Click »More»Create Backup. Specify the folder where you want to save the backup file. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
  3. In all instances, click OK to save the backup. Backups have the following file extensions:
    • DataFinder instance: .bakdf
    • Data Preprocessor instance: .bakdpp
    • Analysis Automation instance: .bakas
  4. Optional: To create a schedule that backs up the instances regularly, select »More»Regular Backup Schedule, enable the setting Backup server regularly, make your settings, and click OK. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
