Batch Indexing Folders or Files

Last Modified: November 20, 2020

Use job files to index specific files or folders that already exist but are still incomplete. Incomplete files may lead to incorrect data in the index or automatic indexing may skip a file due to an indexing error. You cannot use job files with DataFinder instances that index the SystemLink file service, like the FileIndex instance.

  1. Open a text editor.
  2. Create the job file. For more information, refer to Properties and Structure of Job Files.
  3. Save the job file on a path to which the DataFinder instance has access. Job files are text files and have the file extension .dfij for DataFinder instances.
  4. In Data Indexing, click DataFinder Instances.
  5. Select an instance and click »Manage»Index»Job Files.
  6. Enable the processing of job files, select the folder to which you saved the job files and click OK. Use a UNC path to specify the folder. An example UNC path is \\Server\MyFolder.
  7. Click Apply in the highlighted area to accept the settings. A DataFinder instance processes all job files in the specified folder and deletes them after indexing.
  8. Review any errors the DataFinder reports in the Errors folder below the folder with the job files.
