Preparing Data for Searching

Last Modified: August 28, 2020

DataFinder instances index the data in the search areas or in the SystemLink file service so that Data Navigation and clients, like DIAdem and LabVIEW, can search this data.

The following table highlights tasks to help you prepare data for searching.
Goal Indexing Management Task
Configure automatic file indexing for DataFinder instances. Schedule indexing, schedule index optimization (not available for instances that index the file service, like the FileIndex instance), control behavior upon file changes, specify timeouts and the number of parallel indexers.
Ensure DataFinder instances always use the latest data. Enable regular search area monitoring to regularly update the index (not available for instances that index the file service, like the FileIndex instance).
Enable indexing of new files types. Add DataPlugins.
Monitor the indexing status. Open the system status of a DataFinder instance and reindex data if necessary. You can also filter by status.
Maintain DataFinder instance index manually. Index data (not available for instances that index the file service, like the FileIndex instance), optimize data, or reset the index.
