Speeding Up the Search for Custom Properties

Last Modified: August 14, 2019

Optimize custom properties to search more quickly and to improve the search configuration in clients such as Data Navigation. However, date/time custom properties require optimization to make them searchable. The values of the optimized custom properties are displayed in a list in the search input area of the client, from where you can choose the property value you want to search for.

For complex configurations, complete all configuration settings first before you apply them to the server. The indexing process may take some time, and you cannot use the instance during this time.

  1. In Data Indexing, click DataFinder Instances.
  2. Select an instance and click »Manage»Custom Properties.
  3. Choose whether you want to optimize custom properties for files, channel groups, or channels.
  4. Optional: To determine which custom property you want to optimize, start the DataFinder instance and click Calculate Occurrences. Optimize custom properties with a high occurrence. Note that properties with a low occurrence may be incorrectly labeled.
  5. Select the custom property you want to optimize.
  6. Click Optimize. If a custom property has different data types, the DataFinder instance optimizes all selected properties for the data type that is most often used for indexing the custom property.

If you reoptimize a property that was excluded before optimization, the DataFinder instance must reindex all files first before the change takes effect.

  7. Optional: Select an instance and click »Manage»Index»Index Optimization Schedule to optimize custom properties regulary.
  8. Click Apply in the highlighted area to accept the settings.
