Visualizing Test Data on a Dashboard

Create a dashboard to visualize test results from the Test Monitor API or TestStand. Test Monitor installs a default dashboard to help you visualize test data immediately. Edit the default dashboard or create a new one to visualize test data that is important to you.

Before creating your dashboard, determine whether or not you need to customize an installed Jupyter notebook to execute and generate test reports relevant to your needs.

  1. In NI SystemLink Web Application, click Test Monitor.
  2. Click »New.
  3. For Source, select how you want to generate the dashboard. Refer to the following table to choose what kind of dashboard you want to generate.
    Source Option Description
    Create new dashboard Build a dashboard from scratch.
    Add existing dashboard Access a dashboard in Test Monitor from the Dashboard Builder.
    Import dashboard file Upload a dashboard from another server as an .fp file.
    Duplicate current dashboard Create a copy of an existing dashboard to modify for your current goal(s).
  4. Depending on what you selected for the Source, complete one of the following tasks.
    • Enter a name for the dashboard and click OK.
    • Select the dashboard you want to access in Test Monitor and click OK.
    The dashboard editor opens. The dashboard also appears under Dashboard on the sidebar for you to access in Test Monitor any time.
  5. At the top of the editor, select the screen size for which you want to optimize your dashboard.
  6. Considering your goals and the type of dashboard you generated, customize the dashboard in any of the following ways.

    Refer to Visualizing Data on a Tile Dashboard for more information about creating or modifying a dashboard.

    • Drag the tile(s) you want to use to visualize test data onto the panel.
    • Select a tile on the panel and specify the properties you want it to display in the configuration pane.
      1. Depending on the tile type, click + or Tag and select Test results or Notebook.
      2. Select the test result or notebook you want the tile to display.
      3. Add another data source, if your tile type allows.
      4. Specify additional properties you want the tile to display, such as title, units, or navigation URL of the data source.

        Depending on the tile type, you can display more properties.

    • Move a tile to another position on the panel.
    • Select an existing tile and delete it.
  7. Click Play to view your dashboard.

    The dashboard editor automatically saves your dashboard whenever you make a transaction.

  8. To make more changes, click »Edit.
  9. Optional: To make this dashboard the default dashboard in Test Monitor, click »Set as Default.
