Transferring Files Over the Server

    Last Modified: January 10, 2019

Create rules to move files on your server in File Viewer.

Before you can move a file on the server, you must upload the file to the server. Configure your web server to define which users can upload and download files.

You can also transfer files using a supported version of LabVIEW or the File Transfer HTTP API. To transfer files using the HTTP API, refer to the File Service HTTP API documentation.

    1. In NI SystemLink Web Application, in File Viewer, click »File Moving Rules.
    2. Click New.
    3. Enter a name for the rule and select a preconfigured destination to move the file to.
    4. Specify a relative path. This a path that uses the file's properties to determine where the file will move. An example relative path is <Month>\<Day>\<Year>, representing the creation date of the file. This relative path will create folders within the root path that correspond to the specific month, day, and year values of the files. The following is a list of properties you can use as placeholders in relative paths.

      Property placeholders are case-sensitive.

      • Day
      • Month
      • Year
      • Name
      • Extension
In addition to these properties, you can specify a relative path using any custom property you define for files in File Viewer.
    5. Specify whether you want to move the file from one location to another or copy the file to the new location.

If more than one rule applies to a file, and at least one rule specifies to delete the original file, the file service applies all other rules before deleting the file.

    6. Specify whether you want the rule to replace invalid characters in file path names with underscores.
    7. Specify how you want the rule to work if there is a conflict; for example, if a file of the same name already exists in the new location.
    8. Specify Rule Matching Metadata for the file moving rule. Rule Matching Metadata refers to any values you want the file service to search for to determine which files to move. If a file's metadata matches a value you specify, the file service moves that file.
    9. Click Create.
