Supported Data Types and Portability Issues with Database Connectivity

Because the Database Connectivity API works with a wide range of databases, you may encounter portability issues due to different data types or table elements in the databases you work with. Consider the following issues when choosing your database system:

Type of Support Issue What To Do
Flat-file databases do not support floating-point numbers. Database Connectivity nodes will automatically convert floating-point numbers to the nearest equivalent- usually a binary-coded decimal (BCD) before storing them in the database.
Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers for Oracle and the Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding Database Provider (OLE DB) for Oracle do not support binary large object (BLOB) data types. You cannot use Oracle with LabVIEW NXG for binary data with these drivers. Use the OLE DB Provider and ODBC driver that Oracle provides. Refer to the Oracle website for more information.
Restrictions on column names and column name length vary among database systems. Limit column names to ten uppercase characters without spaces for maximum portability. To access longer column or field names, or names that contain spaces, try enclosing the names in double quotation marks.
Some database systems do not support date, time, or datetime data types. Format this data into another compatible data type, such as string or number data. Use a different database type if storing date, time, or datetime data is necessary.
