Creating an Overload Group

Overload groups determine how a node should automatically behave based on how you connect different data types to it in your diagram.

  1. In an open project, select File» Preferences and click Preview features.
  2. Check the Enable Multi-Mode Elements and overload groups and click OK.
  3. Click Yes to restart LabVIEW NXG.
  4. When LabVIEW NXG launches, open your project.
  5. Select a node you want to add to the overload group.
  6. In the Document tab, expand Behavior and enter a name for the overload group.

    Overload groups work best when the individual nodes included have all but one parameter in common. If the node parameter configurations are significantly different, the algorithm which evaluates the overload group may not behave the way you expect.

  7. Repeat this for all nodes you want to add to the overload group.
  8. Connect a wire to a node on your diagram that belongs to an overload group, LabVIEW NXG evaluates whether the node on the diagram is the best match for the wired connection.

    If LabVIEW determines that another node in the overload group is a better match, it will automatically switch the node in the diagram to that node.
