Installing the Output Connector on the PXI-4110

Complete the following steps to install the 6-position MINI-COMBICON output connector and prepare signal connections.
  1. Screw the signal wires into the screw terminals of the MINI-COMBICON.
  2. Attach the 6-position backshell to the cable assembly.
  3. Connect the 6-position assembled connector to the device.
Note Using the provided backshell for the output connector provides protection against accidental shorts to output terminals and strain relief.
  4. Screw in the flange to lock the connector to the PXI-4110.
  5. Power on the chassis.

Connecting Multiple Channels in Series

Caution Do not exceed 60 V DC from any terminal to ground when cascading power supplies.

You can cascade multiple channels in series to generate greater output voltage because channels 1 and 2 on the PXI-4110 are bank-isolated outputs with a shared terminal, which is a series arrangement. The isolation rating of the channel 1 + 2 bank is 60 V, which allows it to be floated on top of the output of channel 0 for up to 46 V at 1 A as illustrated in the following figure.

Note You must use the APS-4100 when operating channels 1 and 2 in series with channel 0 to ensure all channels have matching maximum current capabilities.
Caution The PXI-4110 does not provide isolation when using CH 0.

Connecting Multiple Channels in Parallel

You can connect identical channels from multiple PXI-4110 modules in parallel to generate greater output current.

Caution Do not exceed 60 V DC from any terminal to ground when cascading power supplies.

NI recommends limiting the number of output channels connected in parallel to two. The following figure shows connections for parallel operation of channel 1 using two PXI-4110 modules.

Note You cannot cascade channels 1 and 2 in parallel to generate voltage at 2 A because the channels share a common ground path and do not operate in the same quadrant.
Note NI does not recommend operating channels 0 and 1 in parallel due to the chance of user error in programming the voltage limits of channel 1, which can exceed the ratings of channel 0.
Note You must use APS-4100 for total output current above 200 mA in this connected configuration.

Note When connecting multiple channels in parallel, verify that all the channels you are connecting are set to output the same voltage level or voltage limit.
