Error Indicators and Other Controls

At the bottom of the NI VMS interface, you can view errors and choose which lines and frames to view in the displays on the Waveform and Picture tabs.

Control Description
Lines to View Specifies how many horizontal lines to view at a time in the waveform display. You can view a maximum of 200 lines simultaneously for component and digital video formats, and you can view an unlimited number of lines simultaneously for composite and S-video formats.
Tip Tip  Choose a lower number in the Lines to View control to improve memory and speed performance.
View Frame Displays the specified digital or analog frame in the Waveform or Picture tabs. This control does not specify which frames will be measured.
Meas. Channel Specifies a composite channel to be analyzed. This control is only visible if you acquire more than one channel of a composite signal.
Meas. Line

Enter a value in the Meas. Line control to perform one of the following actions:

  • Specify the starting line in a block of consecutive lines to be measured.
  • Specify the line at which the display on the Waveform tab starts.
Error indicators

Error indicators in the bottom right-hand corner of the user interface window turn red for the following error types:

  • Init.—Indicates error in hardware initialization.
  • Acq.—Indicates error in video acquisition or file load. Example causes: incorrect video standard, digitizer memory capacity exceeded (the amount used is indicated by the small blue gauge)
  • Plot—indicates error in waveform plotting and display.
  • Meas.—indicates error measurement and analysis. Example causes: incorrect measurement locations file, incorrect video standard acquired, lack of expected test elements in the signal, or poor-quality signal preventing reliable sync extraction and feature measurement.

If an error indicator is illuminated, click on the error indicator to display a detailed error message.

Digitizer Memory Use Digitizer memory usage for the most recent acquisition is shown by a small gauge to the right of the error indicators in the bottom right corner of the user interface. When the tank level is at the top, memory use is 100%; when it is at the bottom, memory use is 0%.
