PXIe-4051 Operating Guidelines

Refer to the following sections for information about PXIe-4051 features and guidelines for operating the PXIe-4051.

Overload Protection (OLP)
The PXIe-4051 is protected against overcurrent (OCP) conditions, overvoltage (OVP), and overpower (OVPWR) conditions.
Fault
The fault output pin indicates when a device fault or error has occurred.
INHIBIT Pin
The INHIBIT input pin forces the PXIe-4051 input to an inhibited state if not shorted to ground. This inhibited state forces the PXIe-4051 to sink 0 A of current.
Source Inductance
In Constant Voltage mode, the PXIe-4051 should remain stable with most source (or cable) inductance.
Source Capacitance
In Constant Current mode, PXIe-4051 remains stable with source capacitances.
Dynamic Sources
Source voltage or current can vary between a minimum and a maximum value in some applications. In Constant Current mode with a pulsing voltage source, the Constant Current circuit of the electronic load limits and regulates the input current.
Transient Response
Transient response describes how an electronic load responds to a sudden change in source voltage or current.
Reverse Current Loads
The PXIe-4051 is not designed for reverse voltage or current operations. The electronic load will become damaged if reverse currents are applied to their input terminals.
Ranges
Electronic loads use one or more ranges for voltage, current, resistance, and power input, as well as one or more ranges for voltage and current measurement.
Noise
Noise is unwanted signals present on the input channels that can affect devices connected to the input channel.
Power Measurements
The PXIe-4051 has two synchronized ADCs that measure voltage and current. You can use NI-DCPower to measure power flowing to the PXIe-4051.
