Using NI I/O Variable and Function Block to Develop Applications

When NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet detects the interfaces, you are ready to use these interfaces. NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet also provides the following approaches to help you build applications.
Note You can use the Devicenet VIs to read and write data after you complete Step 1.

I/O Variables

When you configure your DeviceNet network, you can create I/O variables and use them in a VI.
Note We recommend using DeviceNet VIs. You can use these VIs to do all of the work that I/O variables perform.

DeviceNet Explicit Message Function Block

Use the DeviceNet Explicit Message Function Block to perform Explicit Message operations that typically take a long time to complete.
