When you use an NI real-time controller, you can begin to configure the system after preparing the hardware and software.
Note If you only want to use DeviceNet VIs, you can start using the VIs after completing Step 1 without completing the following steps.

To add an NI real-time controller to a LabVIEW project, complete the following steps.

  1. Launch LabVIEW. Create a new empty project by selecting Empty Project under the new heading. Save this project using the name desired, for example, DeviceNet.lvproj.
  2. In the LabVIEW Project Explorer, right-click the Project root item and select New»Targets and Devices to display the Add Targets and Devices dialog box.
  3. Expand the related controller category to access the online controller. For a PXI controller, expand the Real-Time PXI category. If no controller is listed under the category, ensure that your controller is connected to your host.
  4. Select your controller and click OK.
