What You Need to Get Started

Before you install your NI GPIB-Serial Converter hardware, be sure you have the following items:

• One of the following controllers, which is included in your kit:
  • GPIB-RS232
  • GPIB-RS485/RS422
• A DC power supply, also included in your kit.
• A shielded serial cable. Refer to Interfacing to an RS232 Device or Interfacing to an RS485 Device for your appropriate cable requirements. To connect to the PC serial port, use one of the following PC-compatible shielded cables, which you can purchase from National Instruments:
  • RS232 DTE-to-DTE cable (1, 2, or 4 m) for the GPIB-RS232 (182238-01, 182238-02, or 182238-04)
  • RS485 null-modem cable (1, 2, or 4 m) for the GPIB-RS485/RS422 (183283-01, 183283-02, or 183283-04)
• A type X2 double-shielded GPIB cable (1, 2, or 4 m), which you can purchase from National Instruments (763061-01, 763061-02, or 763061-03).

Note  To meet FCC emission limits for this device, you must operate this device with shielded cables.
