Ensure that your site can accommodate requirements for the operating environment, physical characteristics, and ventilation clearances.

ETX-1640x Operating Environment

The ETX-1640x is intended for indoor use only. Ensure the location has stable environmental conditions to reduce variability in performance. Ensure the facility has cooling capacity equivalent to the maximum power consumption of the system.

Table 32. Operating Environment Requirements
Operating temperature 5 °C to 32 °C
Operating humidity 10% RH to 80% RH, noncondensing
Pollution degree 2
Maximum altitude 2000 m
Note ETX-1640x can be in standby mode at up to 40 °C but must be within the operating temperature range in normal use.

ETX-1640x Physical Characteristics

Ensure the location, including passageways and elevators, can accommodate the size and weight of the ETX-1640x.

Note Dimensions include the rack, power entry panel, and the power distribution unit.
Note Maximum weight includes base configuration and all equipment installed, stored, or attached to rack. Rack casters and frame can withstand a maximum weight of 544 kg (1200 lbs), evenly distributed among each caster.
Table 33. Physical Characteristics and Rack Air Circulation
Dimensions 1157.79 mm × 679 mm × 1971 mm (45.58 in. × 26.7 in. × 77.6 in.)
Maximum weight as shipped

ETX-16400: 344 kg (758 lb)

ETX-16401: 336.6 kg (742 lb)

Acoustic emissions 64 dB, 1 m away

ETX-1640x Mechanical Stability and Loading

Your rack is configured for optimal stability and optimal balance. Installing additional equipment may increase the risk of your rack tipping over. Make sure to preserve stability when making any changes to your rack configuration.

For IEC 61010-1 compliance, the rack and all its equipment must comply with the following weight constraints, evenly distributed between each caster.

Table 34. ETX-16400/16401 Maximum Weight
Model Maximum Weight
ETX-16400, ESD casters 544.8 kg (1200 lb)
ETX-16401, ESD casters 544.8 kg (1200 lb)

Refer to Physical Characteristics for more information. Contact NI for more information about the weight of your rack as received.

Improving Rack Stability

Important There may be steel ballast plates at the bottom and right side of the rack. Do not remove the steel ballast plates. The ballast plates improve the stability and safety of the rack based on its specific configuration.

To further improve the stability of the rack, you can tether the rack to the floor or a wall. Make sure to keep all cooling clearances open if tethering the rack. Ensure your tether is sufficient for the weight of the rack. Ensure you perform tethering in accordance with local practices. Any securement should be made between the system frame and the surrounding structure by mechanical means able to support four times the load of the system.

ETX-1640x Center of Gravity

To ensure stability when loading or moving the rack, consult the following figure to familiarize yourself with the typical centers of gravity for the ETX-16400/16401 .

The following table describes the minimum center of gravity for the ETX-16400/16401 rack system. The rack is appropriately ballasted to ensure stability as configured and shipped from NI to stated safety standards. If hardware is integrated above this point, the integrator is responsible for performing additional evaluation and/or testing to confirm compliance with the stability requirements of IEC 61010-1 Clause 7. Additional ballasting or securement means may be required.

Caution Stability is based on the specific configuration of the system ordered, when fully assembled. Your system may be shipped in separate crates or boxes. Use caution to ensure stability while moving your system, and prior to assembly of the configured system.
Caution Shelves, monitor arms, and test fixtures can have an outsize effect on system stability and balance. Take extra care to ensure stability when adding these components to your system.

ETX-1640x Ventilation Clearances

Ventilation clearances are required to ensure proper airflow to the ETX-1640x. Ensure obstructions are outside the following clearance requirements.
