Command: ChnValExpand

Expands registered or implicit channels into standard DIAdem channels.

Call ChnValExpand(ChnList)

Input Parameters

ChnList Specifies one or more channels.

When you register channels, you cannot modify the channel values in the Data Portal or and you cannot add values to the channels. However, you can display registered channels in various ways or use them together in calculations. To edit the properties and values of a registered channel, you must expand the channel. DIAdem physically loads the data into the internal memory, instead of only generating a reference to the data. You cannot save channels with the name of a registered file.

In implicit channels, DIAdem does not save single values; it saves a linear generation specification with a start value and a step width. You generate implicit channels in the Generate Numeric Channel dialog box in DIAdem ANALYSIS. In implicit channels the channel values are write-protected. No other properties of implicit channels are write-protected.

Use the command ChnValExpand in order to edit registered or implicit channels. DIAdem loads the data physically into the internal memory during the expansion.

Note  If you previously assigned a channel you expanded with the command ChnValExpand() to an object, you must reassign this channel to the object because you cannot convert an implicit or registered channel object into an explicit channel object. If you do not execute this assignment after the expansion again, the channel object retains the contents it had before the expansion.
