Probability and Statistics

Probability is the chance that an event will or will not occur. Statistics is the study of probability and provides information that summarizes data and presents it in an easily interpreted form. You can use the Statistics functions to perform probability, descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and interpolation functions.

The LabWindows/CVI Advanced Analysis Library includes the following probability and statistics functions:

Function Description
ANOVA1Way Takes an array of experimental observations you make at various levels of some factor, with at least one observation per factor, and performs a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) in the fixed effect model.
ANOVA2Way Takes an array of experimental observations made at various levels of two factors and performs a two-way analysis of variance in any of four possible models.
ANOVA3Way Takes an array of experimental observations made at various levels of three factors and performs a three-way analysis of variance in any of four possible models.
Contingency_Table Creates a contingency table in which to classify and tally objects of experimentation according to two schemes of categorization.
Erf Evaluates the error function at the input value.
Erfc Evaluates the complementary error function.
F_Dist Calculates the one-sided probability using a random variable from the F-distribution.
Histogram Calculates the histogram of the input array.
InvF_Dist Calculates f such that prob(F < f) = p, where F is a random variable from an F-distribution with the specified degrees of freedom.
InvN_Dist Calculates x such that prob(X < x) = p, where X is a random variable from a standard normal distribution.
InvT_Dist Calculates t such that prob(T < t) = p, where T is a random variable from a T-distribution with the specified degrees of freedom.
InvXX_Dist Calculates xx such that prob( < x) = p, where is a random variable from a chi-square distribution with the specified degrees of freedom.
Mean Calculates the mean, or average, value of the input array.
Median Finds the median value of the input array.
Mode Finds the unique mode of a list of numbers.
ModeEx Finds the mode(s) of a list of numbers.
Moment Calculates the moment about the mean of the input array with the specified order.
N_Dist Calculates the one-sided probability using a random variable from a standard normal distribution.
RMS Calculates the root-mean-square (rms) value of the input array.
StdDev Calculates the standard deviation and the mean, or average, values of the input array.
T_Dist Calculates the one-sided probability using a random variable from the T-distribution.
Variance Calculates the variance and the mean, or average, values of the input array.
XX_Dist Approximates the one-sided probability using a random variable from the 2-distribution.
