Overview

A common approach to architecting a data management solution is to create one common interface for interacting with the data and then deploy this application to clients who need access to the data. This document will explain how to create an installer with the LabVIEW DataFinder Toolkit so that clients can immediately begin accessing the data via the DataFinder on their local machines or connect with a central DataFinder Server Edition.

Creating an Executable

The first step is to create an executable of the application you wish to use as the client interface.

Creating an Installer with the NI DataFinder Index

Often, you will want to include the NI DataFinder index with the installer so that when a client installs the application, they will have a local copy of the NI DataFinder on the client machine.  In order to do this, there are several files you need to be sure to include in the installer.

Installing on the Client Machine

Once you have built the installer, you can deploy it your clients and begin installing. For each of the machines running an application that includes the LabVIEW DataFinder Toolkit, you will need to have a run-time license. This license covers the actual deployment of a local My DataFinder and/or the connection of the client application to NI DataFinder Server Edition for large group data management.
