When information is modulated onto a carrier wave and transmitted to another antenna, the process must be reversed in order to retrieve the original information. This process of reversing the modulation to extract the information is called demodulation.
Modulation is performed on the transmission side of communication and therefore demodulation is performed on the receiving side.
