The following content is also located in the DAQ Quick Start Guide and the DAQ Assistant Help.

The DAQ Assistant is a graphical interface you use to configure measurement tasks and channels, and to customize timing, triggering, and scales without programming. Using the DAQ Assistant, you can interactively build a measurement channel or task for use in LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio application developments of version 7.x or higher and VI Logger 2.0 or higher. You can then incorporate your tasks into your application.

You can launch the DAQ Assistant from LabVIEW 7.x or higher, LabWindows/CVI 7.x of higher, Visual Studio .NET with Measurement Studio 7.x or higher; from Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) 3.0 or higher; from VI Logger 2.0 or higher.

To launch the DAQ Assistant in MAX 3.0, right-click Data Neighborhood, then select Create New. Select NI-DAQmx Task. The DAQ Assistant opens. If you are using one of the previously listed application development environments (ADEs), you can also launch the DAQ Assistant through it instead.

In the DAQ Assistant, the first step in creating your DAQ task is to select the type of measurement to take.

Next, select a more specific type of measurement.

After you select the specific type of measurement to take, you are asked to select the channels for your task. Select which physical channels to include.

Next, you are prompted to enter a name for your task. Select a descriptive name and enter it.

Configure the task’s timing and triggering, as well as the grounding mode and the input range of the signal.

You have configured your task.

To test the task through the DAQ Assistant, click the Test button. A panel opens displaying the data you will be acquiring based on your configuration settings, to test if the task is configured correctly.

If the task is not acquiring the data you expect, reconfigure the task to give you the data you expect before using the task in your application.

When your task is configured correctly, you will want to use that task in a specific programming environment. The following information is available on how to use the DAQ Assistant in your particular programming environment.

The DAQ Quick Start Guide, located at Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-DAQ>>DAQ Quick Start Guide contains additional information about the DAQ Assistant.

The DAQ Assistant Help in the DAQ Assistant interface contains instructions for using the DAQ Assistant to configure common measurements tasks, channels, and scales.
