The DIAdem report panel is a drag and drop environment that will create professional, publication-ready reports that can be easily shared with co-workers in a variety of formats. An advantage of using DIAdem to create your custom reports is that the report is saved as a template that can be reused and updated with any data set. You can create multi-sheet reports using 2D and 3D axis systems polar axis systems, tables, text, variables, formulas and graphics to document and present data.

1. Video Overview

2. Drag and Drop Environment

The report panel consists of a workspace where you design your report. Your report can have as many pages as you like that you manage with tabs located at the bottom of the DIAdem environment. The Group Panel shows the different display objects you can drag and drop onto your report. To create a report that includes 3D Axis Systems or 3D Tables you must have DIAdem Advanced or Professional. 

To create a custom display you select which display area you want to use from the group panel. Once you select your display area, your mouse will look like this 

Within the workspace, you define where the item will be located and how big it will be by clicking and dragging an outline of your display area. To confirm the size, click again and the outline you created will be replaced by the display area you selected. You can continue to modify and move the display area around once you place the object on the report.

To add data to the display area, you select the channels in the data portal and drag and drop them onto the designated display area.

If you are adding data to a chart, select the X-axis first and then hold down the CTRL key as you select the Y-axis channel(s) and then drag the data into the axis system. To modify the appearance of the axis system, double-click to bring up the Curve and Axis Definition dialog box as seen below. With this dialog box you can add new channels to the graph, change the graph colors, add a legend, manually scale the axis, or select which curves to show and hide (the checkboxes), etc.

If you are using a table, select the channels that you want and drag it to the table. The table will automatically adjust the number of columns displayed. To adjust how many rows are displayed double-click anywhere on the table to bring up the Table Definition dialog box. Go to the Scaling tab to adjust how many rows are displayed and set it up so that every nth data point is listed in the table.

You can also use the Chart Wizard to create report templates. The Chart Wizard will create a new worksheet that will display one diagram per worksheet. The Chart Wizard will walk you through three steps of selecting the diagram type, specifying the channels, and configuring the appearance of the diagram. The Chart Wizard allows you to preview the diagram you are designing in real time on the report page. You can continue to modify the diagram after you exit out of the Chart Wizard.

3. Breaking Down the Toolbar

The report panel has a toolbar that makes designing and exporting reports a breeze.

Use the Chart Wizard to create report templates.

Data Portal
Use this button to toggle the visibility of the Data Portal

Copy to Clipboard, Save Graphic As
Paste the report in an open text document or save the report as a graphics file

Export to PDF, HTM, PPT
Export your report in one of these convenient file formats.

Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom Off
Magnify a section and then use Zoom Off when you are finished zooming.

Updates the report template by updating variable content and redrawing the report.

4. Taking Advantage of the Report Template

The DIAdem report is template based and can easily be reused and updated. You save the descriptions of all the worksheets of a report in a layout file with the filename extension  .tdr or a compressed .tdrz. The layout contains descriptions of all objects, such as axis systems, tables or text and the data links.

By default, DIAdem uses the channel name and the group index to assign the data channels in the report. This works well if the channels in the data files you evaluate always have the same name and are always in the same channel group. If the channel group is not always at the same position in the data files, but the group always has the same name, the channel assignment can also consist of the group name and the channel name. To specify the type of channel assignment select Settings » Options » General. 5. Exporting Your Report

DIAdem provides many options for sharing your results with colleagues. As mentioned previously, you can use the toolbar button as a quick way to export your results to a PDF, HTM, or PPT. If you are going to be sharing your reports frequently with others, you can use the macro recorder to generate a script (or you can write your own in VBScript) which will automate the process with a click of a button.
