The ability to inspect data and draw conclusions in an efficient manner is just as important as the test itself. Often times a simple glance at a data set can indicate whether a test was a success or a failure. Additionally, being able to overlay several test runs and visually correlate the results gives insight necessary to make key decisions. In DIAdem VIEW, you have many tools available so that you can visually inspect your data and draw critical conclusions by interacting with the data in table and graphic formats.

1. Navigation Overview

Selecting the VIEW panel displays a worksheet with a workspace area for you to customize. You can have multiple unique worksheets that you manage by using tabs located at the bottom of the screen. Within each workspace you can have any number of display areas where you specify the display type. Once you set up the layout the way that you like, you can save it and reuse it at any time for any data set.

2. Display Types

2D Axis System

Use the 2D Axis System to display your channels as curves. Double-click to customize the appearance of your axis system. Use the 2D axis system toolbar to inspect your data thoroughly, and set up multiple Y-axes with ease.

Channel Table

Use channel tables to view and edit the contents of data, time, waveform and text channels. You can specify which channels to display, generate data for existing or new channels, and quickly format your data.



Use textboxes to add comments to your evaluation and to display variable content. If you drag and drop properties from the Data Portal into a textbox, the contents of the properties are automatically added as text.


Use Video to insert a MPEG or AVI recording of the test into the VIEW layout. If your layout contains a video and an axis system, and you move the cursor across the axis system, DIAdem plays the video synchronously to the cursor. (Requires DIAdem Advanced or Professional)


Use images to include a picture in your layout. You can zoom to enlarge the image or a portion of the image.


3D Model

Use 3D models in VRML1 and STL formats to display data as coloring or deformation on a 3D model of the test object. Select channels in your Data Portal and drag and drop these channels onto designated points on the 3D model. (Requires DIAdem Professional)

Contour Displays

Use the contour display to display 3D data on a surface two dimensionally. The contour display shows the third dimension of the data as a color value or as isolines. (Requires DIAdem Advanced or Professional)
Embedded Dialog Box

User dialog boxes can be used to enter values, request settings, or start functions. Use DIAdem Script to create dialog boxes, which you save in a dialog box file with the filename extension *.SUD. (Requires DIAdem Advanced or Professional)


Display geographic data, for example, the data of a GPS receiver. You can use map data that Openstreetmaps or Microsoft Mappoint provide. (Requires DIAdem Professional)

3. Adding New Workspace Areas

There are a few options to design your VIEW workspace. To start with a blank workspace, click on the New Layout button (  ) on the toolbar. Now you can select a Workgroup Partition from the group bar, right-click in a workspace area, or drag and drop data from the data portal. Let’s go into each option in a bit more detail.

Using the Workbook Partition

The Workgroup Partition has commonly used layouts preconfigured. When you select one of the options, the workspace will update to the layout design you selected.

Right-Click in a Workspace

If you start from a blank workspace, you can right-click anywhere in the workspace to bring up a shortcut menu. From here you can specify the display type. You can also create new workspace partitions to customize the look of your workspace by selecting New Area and then selecting where the new area will reside.

4. Loading Data into a Display Area

Select your X-axis channel, then holding down the Ctrl key, click on your corresponding Y-axis channel(s). Drag the data into the display area of your choosing and every data point within the channel will automatically be displayed.

You can also use this drag and drop method in a blank workspace. This will bring up a shortcut menu so that you can select what type of display area will be generated.

The VIEW panel is a powerful tool to help you examine your data. With this panel, you can organize the layout and display your data in a way that makes the most sense to you.
