This document introduces the myDAQ Templates for Multisim that allows the student to lay the schematic capture of the PCB circuit design for future implementation with myDAQ.

1. Introduction

This document is the first part of "Multisim/Ultiboard Case Study Tutorial: Design and Implementation of myDAQ Compatible PCB"

Start with the NI myDAQ module template. There are two templates available, beginner and advanced.

Beginner Template: This project is a zip file that contains multiple elements that include the Mutlisim file created from the NI myDAQ Design with the custom PCB connector wired to the myDAQ I/O terminals and the custom connector and Ulitboard layout.

Advanced Template: Project with NI myDAQ Design with the custom PCB connector wired to the myDAQ I/O terminals using a Bus to increase readability and organization (but hides wiring detail). And Ultiboard

2. Understanding the Beginner Template

The template contains the core NI myDAQ Design in NI Multisim which provides access to NI myDAQ simulated instruments using 2 connection areas on the left (which mimics the screw terminal connectors) and top (the DMM connector) of the screen.  This template has been customize with the NI myDAQ right angle PCB connector that mates with the myDAQ when the screw terminals are removed.

Design your circuit, connecting the appropreate lines.  The benefit of using this design is the ability to use the instruments to analyze and simulate your design.

An example of the final design wired in this manner follows:

3. Understanding the Advanced Template

Exactly the same as the beginner template, however multiple wires are reduced down to a single Bus that improves readability of the diagram.  While it can be confusing for new users, it is recommended to make diagrams more readable and improve troubleshooting ability.

Adding wires to the Bus can be accomplished by dragging and dropping a wire and then selecting the channel to which you wish to make the connection. The bus is preconfigured in the template with the myDAQ terminals. The following figure shows the bus lines configuration in the bus settings, and how the bus lines are linked to the myDAQ terminals.

You can also right click on a part and select Bus Vector Connect. A window will open up allowing you to select the terminal on the part and the corresponding myDAQ terminal you want to connect to. The final result for our example is represented in the following figure.
