Laboratory BiosphereExperiment #1The Laboratory Biosphere is available for those interested in researching complex systems, product testing, or for university and museum environmental programs about biospheric systems such as Earth. The Laboratory Biosphere provides opportunities for scientists and students around the world to study these complex systems in a purely controlled environment. These disciplines include Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Aerospace, Earth Sciences, and Meterology among others. Knowledge gained from the mechanical and intrumentation aspects of this chamber is a direct precursor to the Mars on Earth project. This project will construct and operate an Earth-based prototype Mars Base Biosphere that will be a test-bed for developing life support systems for an inhabited Mars Mission. The development of this Mars Base Modular Biosphere will play a major role in determining the feasibility of maintaining humans in a self-sustaining system on Mars, as well as developing more data on Earth's Biosphere. National Instruments LabVIEW software and Fieldpoint hardware were chosen because they provide the ability to publish data worldwide with ease. Three banks of LabVIEW Real-Time embedded FieldPoint control modules are used to monitor all of the enviromental variables inside the chamber. By using the LabVIEW Remote Panel technology the data acquired can be displayed anywhere in the world using a simple web browser, without the scientists doing any additional programming. Use the following LabVIEW application to see the data currently being acquired at the Laboratory Biosphere. To control the demo, right click (command click on Macintosh computers) on the graphic and select Request Control of VI from the menu. NOTE: You must have the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine or LabVIEW installed on your computer in order to view this demo. |
