With the LabVIEW Express VI Development Toolkit, you can create interactive Express VIs to simplify development of test, measurement, and control applications for your colleagues and customers. Express VIs significantly reduce the learning curve and development time associated with software tools by encapsulating the functionality of five to 15 standard virtual instruments (VIs) into single, interactive VIs that require little or no programming to configure.
- Design easy-to-use, configurable Express VIs to distribute to colleagues and customers
- Create custom Express VIs from existing standard or Express VIs, or from a blank template
- Ensure readiness of custom Express VIs for deployment with built-in validation and debugging tools

Description
What are Express VIs?
Introduced with LabVIEW 7 Express, Express VIs are a new type of building block that make LabVIEW even more accessible to engineers and scientists. An Express VI allows a LabVIEW developer to interactively configure the settings of a VI through a dialog box.
An Express VI is comprised of two VIs: a Source VI and a Configuration Dialog Box VI. However, the two-VI design is completely transparent to the user. When an Express VI is placed on the block diagram, the user is presented with its Configuration Dialog Box to interactively configure the settings of the VI. After the desired settings are configured and the dialog box is closed, the Source VI behaves like a typical VI on the block diagram, but contains a saved configuration. This configuration can be changed at any time during development.
How can Express VIs benefit you?
Express VIs provide an interactive, easy-to-use interface for their end-users whose understanding of an application or concept is high, but whose programming experience and comfort level may be low. Some users may feel intimidated at times by the complexity of programming. Express VIs help alleviate this feeling by providing a powerful tool to create applications quickly and easily. In fact, a single Express VI can do the work of up to 15 standard VIs, reducing code complexity and development time.
What is the Express VI Development Toolkit?
The Express VI Development Toolkit is fundamentally different from many of the other LabVIEW toolkits. Instead of including libraries of specialized VIs, the Express VI Development Toolkit extends the LabVIEW development environment to allow the user to create their own Express VIs. Through the use of the Express VI Editor, a developer can create custom Express VIs from a blank template or from existing standard and Express VIs.
What are the benefits of creating Express VIs?
The Express VI Development Toolkit provides a powerful way for developers to share their LabVIEW programming abilities with others. By developing Express VIs for colleagues, customers, or students, you can provide easily-configurable tools that eliminate the need for complex programming and enable the end-user to easily and quickly fine-tune the settings necessary for a specific application. This allows users of custom Express VIs to focus more on the task at hand and less on debugging their code.
What are people saying?
"I think it is great that NI makes this technology available to the end-user. The product is really targeted at the developer to create tools for other developers."
"I'm impressed with the beauty and elegance of the professional looking code."
"It is useful forÂ…companies to create specialized express VIs of often used local procedures so newly hired programmers can write code even faster."
