Restoring EEPROM Configuration Settings on a VXI/VME Controller

Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 operating systems
This section describes how to restore the factory EEPROM configuration settings for the following VXI/VME controllers running under the Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 platforms:

  • VXIpc-870 Series
  • VXIpc-850 Series
  • VXIpc-850 Series
  • VXIpc-740 Series
  • VXI/VMEpc-650 Series
  • PCI-MXI-2
  • VXI/VME-MXI-2

Consult the next section of this document if you are using one of these controllers with another operating system.

  1. Turn off the system and remove the controller from the chassis/PC system.

Note: Use the Windows Shutdown procedure to shut down your PC if you are removing the PCI-MXI-2 card.

  2. Set the Factory OVerride (FOV) Switch on the VXI/VME controller.
This will configure the controller to use the default factory configuration settings. You will need to consult the User Manual for your controller to determine the location of the FOV switch on your controller.

  3. Put the controller back into the chassis/PC system and take care to reconnect any cables without bending or breaking any pins.

  4. Power the system and run the VXI Resource Manager, Resman.

  5. Run T&M Explorer and select the System View (default).

  6. Right-click on the entry for the controller and select Hardware Configuration from the popup menu.

The figure below illustrates an example of the system view that appears on a system with a VXIpc-850.

Note: Windows NT users must be logged onto the computer with Administrator privileges in order to see the Hardware Configuration option. Non administrators will not see this option.

You may see a warning that indicates that the Factory Override switch is set. Select OK if you see this warning.

  7. Select the Default Configuration entry from the list of Common Configurations under the General tab in the hardware configuration settings dialog.

Note: You can also use Test and Measurement Explorer to Save or Load configuration settings to/from a file. You do not need to set the FOV switch in order to load/save a configuration file.

  8. Select OK to continue with the restoration process. You may see a popup dialog asking you to confirm the changes (yes).

  9. Shut down the system and restore the FOV switch to its default position.

Other Operating Systems
The Test and Measurement Explorer is only available for MITE based controllers on Win 32 operating systems. VXI Edit or VXItedit are used for configuration on other operating systems.

The following section describes how to use VXItedit to restore the default factory EEPROM configuration settings.

Note: You may need to be logged into the Operating System with Administrator, or root level access in order to perform the configuration steps listed in this section

  1. Turn off the system and remove the controller from the chassis/PC system.

Note: Use the Operating Systems Shutdown procedure to shut down your PC if you are removing the PCI-MXI-2 card.

  2. Set the Factory OVerride (FOV) Switch on the VXI/VME controller that you removed above. This will configure the controller to use the default factory configuration settings. You will need to consult the User Manual for your controller to determine the location of the FOV switch.

Note: You can also use VXItedit to Save or Load configuration settings to/from a file. You do not need to set the FOV switch in order to load/save a configuration file.

  3. Put the controller back into the chassis/PC system and take care to reconnect any cables without bending or breaking any pins.

  4. Power the system and run the VXI resource manager, Resman.

  5. Run VXItedit and select the Configuration Editor option applicable to the type of VXI/VME controller for which you wish to restore the EEPROM configuration settings.

  6. Load the default configuration file from the /nivxi/tbl directory.

Note: You can also Load or Save custom configuration settings.

  7. Update the EEPROM configuration Settings.

  8. Shut down the system and restore the FOV switch to its default position.

Consult the VXI Text Utilities reference manual for more information on using VXI Edit.
