5B Series Installation

  1. First of all, your data acquisition (DAQ) board should already be installed. If it isn't, then see the Data Acquisition Installation Wizard.

  2. Next you should have the proper connection from your DAQ card to your backplane through an SC-205X board. Check Equipment Needed to see which board you require.

  3. Connect your DAQ card to either of the 50-pin ports on the SC-205X.

Now you may or may not have both of these ports, one called ANALOG I/O and the other called ANALOG INPUT. If you connect to ANALOG INPUT, all channels are analog input. If you connect to ANALOG I/O, channels 14 and 15 on the backplane become output channels, and the rest are input channels.

Note: The 5B08 backplane has 8 slots, each of which can be mapped to one of two possible channels via a jumper. Also, the NB-9 cable connects directly from your DAQ board to backplane and is input only.

  4. Connect either port on your backplane to either ANALOG INPUT or ANALOG I/O on your SC-205X board depending on your use.

  5. Plug your module into the backplane on the channel you would like it to be at. For output modules, channel 14 and channel 15 of the backplane map to analog output channel 0 and channel 1 of the DAQ board, respectively. The input channels 0 through 13 on the backplane map to the corresponding analog input channels on the DAQ board.

  6. Hook up the power supply. On the other end of the plug there should be three wires, one black, one green, and one white. Connect the black and the white wires to both AC terminals. The green wire is unused. Now connect the + terminal of power supply to the +5V orange terminal. Connect the - terminal to the gnd or com. This is the orange terminal right next to the +5V terminal.

  7. SYSTEM: Now hook up your system according to the figure below. The figures below represent the orange terminals on the backplane next to the modules. These figures are from Analog Devices' datasheet on the 5B Series. If you have a 5B-32, the black component labeled "AC1362" is a 20 ohm resistor plugging into the backplane next to the 5B32 module as shown in bottom middle below.
