Software Installation under Windows 98/95/Me

In order to install the NI Serial Software, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the NI Serial Software CD in your CD-ROM drive. On most computers, this should launch the installation wizard automatically and it will guide you through the installation process. If the installation wizard does not launch automatically, you can use manual installation.

    Note: If you do not have the NI Serial Software CD, then you may download the latest NI Serial software for your operating system from our Drivers and Updates Library.

  2. Shutdown your computer completely, and install the serial hardware. If your hardware is already installed, restart Windows.

  3. Windows should automatically detect your hardware and display one or more New Hardware Found dialog boxes. If no New Hardware Found dialog box appears, follow the steps to force Windows 98/95/Me to detect Serial Hardware.

Manual installation:
Follow the steps below only if the installation wizard did not launch automatically:

  1. Select Start » Settings » Control Panel.

  2. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel to launch the Add/Remove Programs applet. You can use this same applet to uninstall the NI Serial software at a later time if you want to.

  3. Click on the Install button.

  4. Insert the NI Serial Software CD, and click on the Next button to proceed.

  5. The setup wizard guides you through the necessary steps to install the NI Serial software. You may go back and change values where appropriate by clicking on the Back. You can exit the setup where appropriate by clicking on the Cancel.

  6. Shutdown your computer completely, and install the serial hardware. If your hardware is already installed, restart Windows.

  7. Windows should automatically detect your hardware and display one or more New Hardware Found dialog boxes. If no New Hardware Found dialog box appears, follow the steps to force Windows 98/95/Me to detect Serial Hardware.
