Software Installation under Windows 3.x
In order to install the NI Serial Software, follow these steps:
- Insert the NI Serial Driver Software for Windows distribution disk into an unused drive.
Note: If you do not have the NI Serial Driver Software for Windows disk, then you may download the latest NI Serial software for your operating system from our Drivers and Updates Library.
- Choose Run from the File menu in the Program Manager window and type x:\setup where x is the letter of the drive containing the distribution disk (usually a or b).
The interactive Windows setup program takes you through the necessary steps to install the NI serial driver software. For help during the installation, press the Help button. You can exit the setup at any time by pressing the Exit button.
The installation program installs the bootup programs ni-pnp.exe and nisboot.exe, and it adds entries to execute these programs in your autoexec.bat file. For applications to work with your AT serial board, you must not remove either of these entries. In addition, ni-pnp.exe must execute before nisboot.exe, so do not change the order of these lines in your autoexec.bat file. For more information about nisboot.exe, refer to Using Your Board with DOS Applications..
The installation program also modifies your system.ini file by updating the
standard Windows COM driver to the enhanced serial driver from National Instruments.
- After the installation is complete, restart Windows.
