DAQ Channel Wizard Tutorial

Introduction

This tutorial is designed to provide you with a quick overview of the DAQ Channel Wizard. With the DAQ Channel Wizard, you can use your existing data acquisition programs without modification for scaling or conversion. For example, a DAQ board connected to a thermocouple will acquire data as a voltage. This voltage, however, actually corresponds to a real-world temperature value, which would normally require you to add a separate conversion routine to your existing program. By using the DAQ Channel Wizard, you can create your own custom channels that automatically relate voltage to temperature. You can use your existing data acquisition program to measure temperature using the custom channels with no modification to the program! To configure a DAQ channel, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your DAQ board is properly installed and that you have a current version of NI-DAQ. If not, go to the NI-DAQ Installation and Configuration page. You will also need a language interface, such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or ComponentWorks.

  2. Open the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) by clicking the desktop icon or searching through the Windows Explorer. Right-click on the Data Neighborhood directory and select insert. From the resulting menu, choose to add a new channel to the configuration.

  3. Now the wizard will prompt you to select one of three types of channels to configure: Analog Input, Analog Output, or Digital I/O.

Please select one of the three types to continue the tutorial:
