Creating a LabVIEW Run-Time Engine

The LabVIEW Run-Time Engine can load and run any LabVIEW VI. It is a standalone program, in the sense that you do not need to have LabVIEW installed on your system run these VIs.

To create a LabVIEW Run-Time Engine, follow these steps:

Step 1: Launch LabVIEW and select "New VI." Then select Project » Build Application.

Build Application

Step 2: In the resulting window, simply click "OK" without specifying a VI library to embed. This will instruct LabVIEW to create the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine.

Build Application

The default name of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine will be lvrt.exe.

Step 3: You can move this executable to any other system running the same operating system. When you launch it, you will be prompted to open a VI. You cannot edit a VI with the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine, but you can run any VI, and do things like printing and datalogging. The notes regarding daqdrv, serpdrv, and the possible need for an .ini file apply in the case of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine, as well.
