Creating a Distribution Kit with the Application Builder

If you have built an executable or have a library of vis that are too large to place on a single disk you can actually use LabVIEW to distribute the files to multiple diskettes. One of the features of the Application Builder is the ability to create distribution diskettes. The steps to follow for this operation are noted below.

Step 1: In LabVIEW, under the Project menu, the first option is to Create Distribution Kit. Once this is chosen the following screen will appear.

Step 2: First, under the General Information Tab you will fill in the fields that are displayed. The Product name will appear on the installation blue screen on the target machine. You will see that you can also type a path for a default location that the disks will be installed in on the target machine. The Write Disk Images to field will be the location that the disks will be created on the development machine. Once you have filled in this information you can go on to the next step.

Step 3: Click on the Files Tab so that you can tell the Distribution Kit which files to include. On this screen click the Add Group button. You will now be prompted to name the group of files that you will add. Click Create and you will see a window that will allow you to choose a file to include on the disks. Choose your files and click OK. The name of the group will now be seen in the File Groups window.

Step 4: Click the Build Button. The disk images will now be created. Go to the directory that you entered into the Write Disk Images field and you will see a folder named disk that was created that include the information for each disk. You will also see a setup program that you will run to install the disks. You will want to put this on your first diskette.

Step 5: You will copy the setup and data.001 files on to the first diskette just by copying and pasting to your floppy drive. Continue this for each diskette in the group. On the target machine you will insert the first disk and run setup.exe. This will begin the installation of your executable. You will be prompted for each of the disks when they are needed.
