GPIB Installation/Configuration Troubleshooter

GPIB-ENET and Windows 3.1 - Configure the GPIB-ENET Software

After the driver is installed and you reboot your computer, open the GPIB configuration utility.

The GPIB software configuration utility is an interactive utility that you can use to examine or modify the configuration of the driver. You must run the GPIB software configuration utility before you can use your GPIB-ENET. The IP address that you obtained in step 1 of the hardware configuration must be recorded in the IP Address field of the appropriate board configuration dialog box.

From the Program Manager in Windows, go to the Control Panel and double click on the GPIB icon.

Windows Control Panel

After launching the GPIB configuration utility (shown below), highlight GPIB0 and select Configure.

This will bring up another window allowing you to enter the GPIB-ENET's IP Address or Hostname. It also allows you to change the bus timing for the board. By default this setting is configured for 500 ns, but if you have older or slower devices you may wish to change this to 2 us.

There are several other board parameters you can modify by clicking on the Software button. For most cases you should leave these parameters at the default settings. Select the OK button until you are again back at the main configuration window.

In additional to GPIB board parameters, the GPIB configuration utility also allows you to configure GPIB device parameters. Simply select the appropriate device name and press the configure button. A device template window will appear allowing you to change such things as the device's name, timeout settings and address. These parameters should only be modified if required by an existing GPIB application. If you are writting a new GPIB program, you should modify these parameters dynamically in your software by calling the appropriate NI-488 function. For more information on these configuration calls, consult the NI-488.2 Function Reference Manual.

When finished, select OK to exit the GPIB configuration utility. You should then verify the hardware and software installation.
