Legacy: Setting GPIB Properties in Windows 2000
Windows 2000 gives you two ways to alter the properties of your GPIB hardware: the Device Manager, which allows you to verify and/or change the resources for your GPIB hardware and the GPIB Configuration Utility, which allows you to manipulate the GPIB settings of your hardware.
Accessing the GPIB Configuration Utility
- Under Start » Settings » Control Panel, select the GPIB icon:
Setting Board Properties
- The GPIB Configuration Utility initially looks like this (assuming you have a GPIB board installed):
Your GPIB board will appear in the list of GPIB Boards (on the left-hand side of the image). If you wish to edit a Device Template, then you must select a device instead, such as DEV1 (see below).
Note: Unlike the Windows NT version of the GPIB Configuration Utility, the Windows 2000 version does not list a GPIB interface in the list of GPIB Boards unless a board is installed.
- Click on the Configure button to open the Configure window:
- Click on the Software » button to expand the Configure window:
The default property settings for a typical GPIB legacy (i.e., non-plug and play) board are shown in the image above. See the page of Tips on Setting GPIB Properties in Windows 2000 for assistance.
Setting Device Properties
- Select a device name from the list of Device Templates on the right-hand side of the GPIB Configuration Utility window:
The Device Templates give you access to device-specific settings, such as an instrument's Device Name, any special Termination Methods, and the name of the GPIB interface (i.e., board) that the instrument is communicating with.
Remember: The term device refers to instruments, while the term interface or access board refers to GPIB boards.
- Click on the Configure button to open the Configure window:
The default settings for a typical GPIB instrument/device are shown in the image above.
