This article discusses the digital video formats that are supported by NI Video Measurement Suite (VMS) and the legacy VideoMASTER Analyzer. It also explains whether the HDMI, DVI, and BT-656 digital video formats supported.

1. Introduction

VMS and VideoMASTER Analyzer support HDMI, DVI, and BT-656 digital video formats. The following digital video specifications are supported:

  • StudioRGB, sRGB, and Digital YUV (sometimes referred to as YCbCr) color spaces
  • 8-bit, as well as 10-bit and 12-bit color depths, also known as deep color
  • Progressive, progressive segment frame, and interlace scan modes
  • SDTV, EDTV, and HDTV standards with resolutions from 480i to 1080p

For more information on VMS support for digital video formats, please review the Fundamentals»Supported Video Signals»Digital Video Signals section of the NI Video Measurement Suite Help.

After configuring your digital acquisition hardware using the process described in the NI Video Measurement Suite Help at Using NI VMS»Configuring Signal Acquisition»Configuring Acquisition for Digital Signals, you can select the digital video signal type to acquire as shown in Figure 1.

Note that you do not select a digital video resolution standard in VMS as you do with other video formats. Instead, the acquisition hardware chooses its resolution and timing settings based on the signal it sees. In the Attachments section is a PDF that lists the digital video formats that National Instruments has verified.
