Opening Keynote Recap

Dr. James Truchard - CEO, president, and cofounder of National Instruments - kicked off NIWeek 2007 on Tuesday morning by discussing the role of National Instruments LabVIEW in system design and how NI plans to take advantage of next-generation programming.

Truchard and Senior Vice President of R&D, Tim Dehne, presented NI LabVIEW 8.5, the newest version of the company's graphical programming environment, which includes the new LabVIEW Statechart Module, improved tools in the LabVIEW FPGA Module, and unique advances in multicore and real-time programming. Dehne was joined by NI developers who demonstrated many new products and technologies, including the ever-increasing bus bandwidth offered by PXI Express, NI TestStand, and National Instruments C Series modules. These products reinforce the company's progress toward "LabVIEW to the pin," a term coined by the father of LabVIEW, Jeff Kodosky, to describe the company's vision for FPGA programming.

The products and advances in commercial technologies continue to enhance the NI vision of graphical system design, empowering engineers and scientists to design, prototype, and deploy a variety of innovative applications. From digital filter design to sound and vibration test, LabVIEW users can develop their solutions on a single graphical design platform, at a lower cost and in less time than traditional approaches.

NI Announces New PXI Products

Stream Data at up to 600 MB/s
NI yesterday announced its newest PXI products, which can sustain higher data streaming rates than ever before possible with an industry-standard test and measurement platform. The new NI PXIe-5442 16-bit arbitrary waveform generator can stream from disk at the full rate of 100 MS/s (200 MB/s) for generation of arbitrary waveforms up to several terabytes in length. The NI PXIe-5442 module complements the existing NI PXIe-5122 100 MS/s, two-channel digitizer and NI PXIe-6536/7 25/50 MHz, 32-channel digital I/O modules.

The NI PXIe-8130 embedded controller delivers up to 4 GB/s of bandwidth to a PXI Express system. The controller includes a 2.3 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor, ExpressCard slot, and Gigabit Ethernet. In addition, the new NI 8262 module and NI HDD-8263 and HDD-8264 external RAID hard drive enclosures offer sustained, long-duration hard drive streaming rates of up to 600 MB/s.
