"We chose LabVIEW because it fulfilled our primary requirements – rapid development of simple but powerful user-interfaces, easy control of both off-the-shelf and custom hardware, and real-time image acquisition and processing offered by the NI Vision Development Module. "

Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the use of noninvasive techniques to determine the integrity of a material, component, or structure. Engineers and scientists use NDT in a variety of applications, including medical imaging, materials analysis, and process control.

One popular NDT technique is ultrasonic testing, which uses sound waves with frequencies higher than the human ear can detect to penetrate a material. With National Instruments data acquisition hardware and NI LabVIEW, you can easily acquire ultrasonic measurements and perform custom signal processing.

Additional Case Studies

Engineers use a variety of approaches to perform nondestructive test, including radar, ultrasound, penetrating dyes, and infrared imaging.

With versatile NI data acquisition devices and LabVIEW software, you can interface with third-party sensors, acquire data, perform analysis, and then display the data or log it to disk. NI offers devices for USB, PCI and PCI Express, and PXI and PXI Express.

PXI NDT System

PXI is an open, PC-based platform for test, measurement, and control. NI offers data acquisition and digitizer modules that are well-suited for ultrasonic measurements.

  • NI offers modules in a range of analog measurement resolutions and sampling rates
  • Precise synchronization of modules over the PXI backplane
  • Easy hardware and software integration with NI LabVIEW

USB NDT System

For lower-channel-count, portable applications, NI provides a wide range of USB measurement devices.

  • USB multifunction data acquisition devices with 16-bit analog input, analog output, and digital I/O
  • USB digitizers with 8-bit resolution and up to 100 MS/s/ch sampling rates
