What Is NI INSIGHT?

NI INSIGHT NI INSIGHT provides an innovative way of visualizing and analyzing test data intuitively by mapping the information directly on the 3D test geometry instead of looking at 2D and 3D graphs. Using NI INSIGHT, you can import the 3D geometry model of the test object directly from CAD or CAE environments and map the physical test data on the object’s 3D model representation in an interactive or automated manner. NI INSIGHT then plays back the data as a color map on or deformation of the geometry model. It provides this capability in an offline mode and, by interfacing to LabVIEW in an online mode. NI INSIGHT can compare the test results with simulation for design validation using a common geometry model and synchronize them with video of the test.

NI INSIGHT interactive software helps design and test engineers work together to validate mechanical design models and simulation results with real-world measured data. NI INSIGHT simplifies the design validation and visualization process by offering:

  • A drag-and-drop environment with no programming requirements
  • Compatibility with all major CAD/CAE software models
  • Simple video synchronization for advanced visualization
  • Extended functionality through NI LabVIEW

Nonprogramming Environment

NI INSIGHT features a high-level approach to data visualization. Configuration-based development simplifies the process of connecting your data channels to your CAD/CAE model mesh and reduces the complexity of generating the visualization necessary to convey the correct information.

CAD/CAE Software Support

With NI INSIGHT, you can import any model that can be saved into the VRML format (.wrl), which works with most major CAD and CAE software packages including SolidWorks, ProEngineer, CATIA, NX I-deas, NASTRAN and ANSYS. Similarly, you can import measurement data from data files (.dat) and take advantage of several conversion utilities to use other data file formats with NI INSIGHT.

Video Synchronization

Many test systems today, in particular destructive test systems such as automobile crash tests, include video capture of the test runs to better visualize the test system and environment. With NI INSIGHT, you can add captured video, in either AVI or MPEG format, to the NI INSIGHT visualization window, alongside the measurement data and design model visualization. Additionally, you can synchronize the video sequences with time stamped measurement data to provide better feedback and test analysis.

LabVIEW Integration

With NI INSIGHT, you can import any model that can be saved into the VRML format (.wrl), which works with most major CAD and CAE software packages including SolidWorks, ProEngineer, CATIA, NX I-deas, NASTRAN and ANSYS. You can easily pass measurement data directly to the NI INSIGHT environment through LabVIEW automation commands to map live measurements directly to CAD/CAE models for instant design validation and simulation verification. The open, flexible architecture of LabVIEW means that you can connect to virtually any type of measurement device.
