Installing and Configuring NI USB DAQ DevicesIncluded in the SectionThis document provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring your USB NI data acquisition (DAQ) device. Before you begin, you must install your application development environment (ADE) and NI-DAQmx driver software. Refer to the Installing NI LabVIEW and NI-DAQmx document for more information. If you are using NI CompactDAQ, refer to the Installing and Configuring NI CompactDAQ document. For each device, follow the steps below to set up the USB DAQ hardware and NI-DAQmx software. NI USB DAQ hardware ranges from low-cost, bus-powered devices to high-performance multifunction I/O. Choose from the following product family groups and complete the corresponding steps to set up your USB DAQ device:
NI bus-powered USB multifunction DAQ devices are designed for mobile or space-constrained applications. All power is supplied through USB so no external power supply is necessary, and direct screw terminal or BNC connectivity simplifies signal connections. This line of products includes the USB-600x/65xx and USB-621x multifunction DAQ devices.

You can choose labels with pin numbers or signal names or blank labels. Choose one of the labels, align the correct label with the terminals printed on the top panel of your device or the 16-position COMBICON connector, and apply the label, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 3. Zip Tie Bar/Loop (1), Large Strain Relief Groove (2), Small Strain Relief Groove (3), USB Cable (4), Locking USB Cable Jackscrew (5), and Jackscrew Hole (6) Mounting OptionsYou can mount USB DAQ devices on a desktop, 35 mm DIN rail, or panel/wall. Desktop UseFor secure desktop use, adhere rubber non-skid feet to the underside of your device, as shown in Figure 4. Do not apply the rubber feet if you are panel mounting the device or stacking it on another USB DAQ device. (Not all USB DAQ devices can be stacked.)
Figure 4. Rubber Feet Application DIN-Rail MountingYou can use the DIN-rail mounting kit (part number 779689-01) to mount many NI devices to a standard DIN rail. Fasten the DIN-rail clip to the device using a No. 1 Phillips screwdriver and four thread-forming screws, included in the DIN-rail mounting kit. Tighten the screws to a torque of 0.76 N • m (6.7 lb • in.).
Figure 5. Thread-Forming Screw (1), DIN-Rail Clip (2), and Device (3) Note that using the thread-forming screws permanently affixes the DIN-rail clip to the device. Unscrewing and reinstalling the thread-forming screws produces a compromised connection between the DIN-rail clip and the device. Panel MountingTo mount a USB-621x to a board or panel, complete the following steps:

Each USB C Series DAQ device is a combination of an NI USB-9162 USB carrier and an NI C Series measurement I/O module. The USB-9162 provides USB connectivity back to a host PC. C Series modules combine A/D converters, signal conditioning, and signal connectivity in one package for measuring or generating one or more specific types of signal.

Externally powered USB DAQ devices provide the same features and functionality as PCI and PCI Express/PXI and PXI Express DAQ boards. Each device features up to 80 analog input (AI) channels, up to four analog output (AO) channels, up to 48 lines of digital input/output (DIO), and two counters. Each device offers BNC, screw terminal, or mass termination I/O connectivity options. This line of products includes the USB-622x, USB-625x, USB-628x, and USB-63xx multifunction DAQ devices.

Adhere the cable tie mount to the rear panel of a USB-62xx screw terminal or USB-62xx mass termination device. Use the built-in strain relief holes for BNC devices. Thread a zip tie through the cable tie mount and tighten around the USB cable. The strain relief holes can also be used as cable management for signal wires to/from the screw terminals and BNC connectors.
