Configure NI CompactRIO With a Static IP Address

Currently, you should see your CompactRIO system under Remote Systems and have it connected directly to your computer with a crossover cable or to a static network.

  1. If your computer is not configured with a static IP address, set a static IP address of 10.0.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 as described below. If your computer is already configured with a static IP address, use the process below to retrieve the address.

If your computer requires that you connect to a specific domain to use it, consider connecting your CompactRIO system to the network, rather than configuring a static IP address.

    1. In the Windows Control Panel, open Network Connections and double-click Local Area Connection.
    2. On the General tab, click Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is displayed.
    3. Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) dialog box is displayed.
    4. On the General tab, select Use the following IP address. If it was already selected, move on to the next step where you configure CompactRIO with a static IP address.
    5. Enter the following:

      IP address: 10.0.0.1

      Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

      Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

    6. Click OK and close each of the network settings windows.

For Windows 7, take the following steps:

    1. In the Control Panel, open Network and Sharing Center.
    2. Select Local Area Connection from the list of connections.
    3. Select Properties.
    4. From the list titled This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
    5. Select Use the following IP address. If it was already selected, move on to the next step where you configure CompactRIO with a static IP address.
    6. Enter the following:

      IP address: 10.0.0.1

      Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

      Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

    7. Click OK and close each of the network settings windows.

  2. Locate and select your CompactRIO system under Remote Systems in Measurement & Automation Explorer.
  3. Enter the following IP address information and click Save. Click yes if you receive a warning and OK to reboot the controller. If your computer was already configured with a static IP address other than 10.0.0.1, select an IP address for your CompactRIO system that is on the same subnet.

    IP address: 10.0.0.2

    Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

    Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

  1. Once your CompactRIO system reboots and shows 10.0.0.2 as the IP address, you are ready to install software on the controller.
